No.2 seed Alex Eala continued his singles race at the Roehampton International Junior Tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over No.32 seed Matilde Paoletti of Italy in the second round Thursday in the Grande -Brittany.

“I couldn’t be happier with today’s singles victory. I think I played really well. Tomorrow, the round of 16, ”she shared on Facebook.

Next for Eala, 16, is Germany’s Mara Guth, 18, seeded no.14. Eala leads his duel with two victories over Guth: a semi-final victory at JA Osaka 2019 where Eala was a finalist; and a victory in the second round of the 2020 Roland Garros Junior Championships where Eala became a semi-finalist.

In the first round, Eala ousted junior No.35 Darja Vidmanova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Eala and Priska Madelyn Nugroho withdrew from the doubles tournament after being knocked down in the second round by Barbora Palicova of the Czech Republic and Radka Zelnickova of Slovakia, 6-4, 6-4.

Eala and Nugroho, the 2020 Australian Open junior girls’ doubles champions, beat Germany’s Nicole Rivkin and Belgium’s Hanne Vandewinkel, 7-6 (1), 7-5, in the first round.

After J1 Roehampton, Eala will head to the junior championships, Wimbledon, which starts on July 5th.

Filipino tennis star seeks third junior Grand Slam title after Australian Open 2020 women’s doubles crown with Nugroho; and the 2021 Roland Garros junior girls’ championship with Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva.

During the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour, world No.629 Eala last competed at W25 Madrid where she lost in the singles first round and reached the doubles quarterfinals.

Rafa Nadal Academy scholar and recipient of the ITF Junior Player Grants won her first professional title in January at the first stop of W15 Manacor in Spain.
