Six Nations Rugby | French Penaud wins International Rugby Players Men’s Try of the Year award

During the third round of this year’s championship, the Blues got a fluid team movement through the mark quickly taken by back Brice Dulin.

He then confided to Romain Ntamack who kept the ball alive by passing it to Anthony Jelonch with the flanker shot halfway through.

Scrum half Antoine Dupont organized the ruck quickly and released a quick ball with a missed pass to Virimi Vakatawa.

The bulldozer’s outside center gave Zander Fagerson a big boost and unloaded beautifully with the back of his hand, despite the attention of Guinness Six Nations Championship player Hamish Watson.

Vakatawa’s kick found sheepish on the edge which chipped Finn Russell’s coating and snatched the ball over the line before slamming it despite Ali Price’s best efforts.

Skill, daring, vision

The essay was voted on by the fans of the four nominees shortlisted by the IRP panel: Conrad Smith (NZL, president), Rachel Burford (ENG), Thierry Dusautoir (FRA), Fiao’o Faamausili (NZL), Bryan Habana (RSA) ), Jamie Heaslip (IRE).

Penaud’s eye-catching try was chosen ahead of compatriot Pierre-Louis Barassi’s score against Australia this summer, Luke Jacobson’s effort for New Zealand in the rugby championship and Lukhanyo Am’s try against the British and Irish Lions.

Despite conceding the score, Scotland won the match 27-23 to secure a first triumph for Paris in 22 years.

However, it was a big blow to the testing front for the French at the 2021 World Rugby Awards as Emilie Boulard started and finished a spectacular team try in the Women’s Six Nations against Wales to win the prize of Women’s try-on of the year for international rugby players.

Full-back Boulard recovered the ball on the left wing before sneaking inside a defender, simulating and then unloading to support runner Maëlle Filopon.

The away center took the ball along the line before moving it inside to replace Camille Imart who fixed the last Welsh defender and returned it to Boulard who dove into the corner under immense pressure to crown a phenomenal movement.

It was a truly fantastic try and made even more impressive by the fact that Boulard made his debut for Les Bleues in the 53-0 victory at Vannes in April.

Boulard’s effort beat the competition of her teammate Romane Menager who also scored a good score in this year’s Six Nations, while Abby Dow’s try scored for England against the score of the Frenchwoman and Italy’s Sara Barattin in the 2021 Rugby World Cup qualifiers also missed.
