Rick and Morty-Train.com’s story doesn’t exist for good reason
Rick and morty has always been the type of show that rewards discerning viewers. Questions like “Where’s Tammy?” And “What’s Evil Morty’s plan?” have haunted fans, hiding in the background as the show happily continues to move forward. Corn www.Story-Train.com is not one of those mysteries. The gag site at the end of Rick and morty Season 4, Episode 6, encouraging people to jump right in on consumerism is only a little elaborate. And that plays with us all.
From the first few minutes, it was clear that “Never Ricking Morty” was this season’s answer to “Interdimensional Cable”. Thanks to a train full of people who either adore or despise Rick, the episode is made up of a series of bizarre vignettes on Rick and morty adventures we have never seen. It is quite normal for the course of this wild spectacle. But as the episode progresses, it becomes clear that what’s really going on is a lot more confusing and ridiculous.
It turns out that this train is actually controlled by the Story Master, a Snowdrops-esque overlord that only cares about building the best story imaginable. Huge moments happen, like Tammy fighting Summer with a lightsaber, which Rick explains as either non-cannon or possibly cannon. After Rick and Morty defeat Story Master using the story of Jesus, the truth is revealed. They were never our main Rick and Morty or even a real Rick and Morty. Instead, they were actually story devices trapped on a toy called the Story Train.
True towards Dan Harmon’s love for fake ads, the “Never Ricking Morty” end bumper is an advertisement for the Story Train toy. But despite the ad’s insistence that viewers feed the beast that is capitalism, http://www.Story-Train.com does not exist. It’s a dead link, and it’s confused fans since the episode premiered.
As fun as it is to own your own story train, that will probably never happen. Why? Because buying merchandise without thinking was never the point of the episode. Mocking the very success of Rick and morty was himself.
Just the idea of the Story Train and its circular track is a meta jab to the show. Harmon has long spoken openly about the theory of the circle of history, the writing method he has long used to decipher every show, episode, movie, or whatever he has written. This self-mockery continues even further, showing fans a plethora of exciting, action-packed scenes that were featured extensively in the trailer for these new episodes. Since people started to analyze Rick and mortyOpening credits of, Harmon and Justin Roiland told fans not to take anything too seriously on their show. What would make this point better understood than literally trapping Rick and Morty in an anthology episode?
Rick’s drunken rant about the need for blind capitalism also fits into this mockery. This show was created by the man who once wrote a character on Community which legally changed its name to Subway. Skewering capitalism while complying with it has long been part of Harmon’s philosophy. And with the really insane amount of shirts, toys, games, underwear, and Rick-on-wheels trucks that Adult Swim pumped up for this show, it was time for these co-creators to make fun of them. own intense merchandising.
So what did the writers of this weird and painfully intelligent series do? They wrote an episode highlighting all of their tropes and narrative shortcuts. They then turned this episode into a long, complicated commercial for a toy that nods to their own show’s rampant consumerism. Warner, who owns Adult Swim, then registered the domain for http://www.Story-Train.com. And we all clicked.
Rick and morty possessed us all. But at the end of it all, it’s hard to get too crazy. Without any analysis, protest or questioning, owning a Story Train would have been pretty cool.
Update: Looks like story-train.com is officially redirecting to the Rick and morty to place. And you better believe you can buy some loot there and feed the capitalist monster.
