BETTING: Rafael Nadal’s record 21st Grand Slam singles title by winning an epic Australian Open final has dashed Novak Djokovic’s hopes of being the first to do so, but the Serb remains world number one of the ranking published on Monday.
The 34-year-old was unable to make the first Grand Slam of the year after being kicked out of Australia over Covid-19 vaccination issues, but extended his record run as number one to 358 weeks.

Nadal’s beaten opponent in the Melbourne final, Daniil Medvedev, remains second but the Russian moves within 1,000 points of Djokovic.
Djokovic will retain the points he earned by winning his ninth Australian Open title last year until February 21, with last year’s tournament being played on later dates February 8-21 .
Nadal remains fifth in the standings despite his record title and the only move into the top 10 sees Italian Matteo Berrettini – who lost to the Spaniard in the semi-finals in Australia – move up one place to sixth.

Spaniard Pablo Carreno and American Taylor Fritz enter the top 20 in 17th and 20th respectively.
