Nick Kyrgios and Cori Gauff agree to play mixed doubles at Australian Open
Six-time ATP champion Nick Kyrgios and rising American star Cori Gauff have agreed to play in mixed doubles at the Australian Open. Kyrgios tweeted to Gauff: “Mixed at Aussie Open?”, To which the American replied, “Let’s make it happen.”
Kyrgios, 26, last played in mixed doubles at the Australian Open in 2020 alongside Amanda Anisimova. At the time, Kyrgios and Anisimova made the round of 16 at Melbourne Park. On the other hand, Gauff has not played in mixed doubles since Wimbledon 2019.
At the championships in 2019, Gauff teamed up with Jay Clarke, but the two didn’t have a good run as they lost in their first game of the tournament.
Kyrgios feels “weird” about his career
“Honestly, I don’t miss it so much anymore,” Kyrgios said in Washington, when asked if he missed the Tour.
“It’s good to be back, of course, especially in these tournaments where I’m so comfortable and there are a lot of people, I hope everything goes well. situation is always crazy, every time i play a tournament i feel these vibes that tell me this might be the last time i am here.
In Atlanta, I felt the same. It’s like I don’t know where I am, I feel weird, I feel weird about my career right now. Seeing the fans again is the best part of being back, of seeing all their support. ”At this point in his career, Kyrgios just wants to have fun.
“I go at my own pace, I’m not competing with anyone, I don’t feel like I have to climb the rankings or win tournaments. I do it my way and that’s how I handle it every day Here I can come and cheer up all the fans with simple training, involving them and making them participate in the tournament.
At the start of my career, I had coaches telling me what to do, how to do it and how much I needed to improve in the standings. Now, honestly, I don’t think about any of that. I do what I want, I sink, I play tournaments and I have fun when I can, “Kyrgios revealed.
