Meet the 8 multi-surface champions on the ATP Tour in 2022 ft. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic

Roberto Bautista Agut has joined Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as multi-surface champions this year. Baustista Agut ended Filip Misolic’s inspired run in Kitzbuhel on Sunday to claim his second ATP title of the year.
The 34-year-old started well against Misolic, who was making his first singles final in his first ATP singles tournament. Bautista Agut conceded just two games in each set to claim the 11th title of his career and second of the year.
In the process, the Spaniard became this year the eighth multi-surface winner of the ATP circuit.
#8Roberto Bautista Agut
Roberto Bautista Agut has had a solid 2022 campaign, improving to 27-11 the year after his triumph at Kitzbühel on Saturday.
It was the 11th title of his career and the second of 2022, after his victory on the hard courts of Doha earlier this year, where he beat Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final.
In Kitzbühel on Saturday, Bautista Agut was a model of consistency against Misolic, 20. He won his first clay-court title in eight years (Stuttgart), smashing his opponent twice in each set to claim victory in 93 minutes.
Bautista Agut will move up two places to No. 18 in the rankings on Monday, while Misolic will move up 70 places to No. 135.
#7Reilly Opelka
Reilly Opelka had a fairly successful year, winning 20 of their 34 matches, including two titles.
He won the third title of his career on the hard courts of Dallas, beating Jenson Brooksby in two tie-breaks. The lanky American didn’t drop a set all week but had to negotiate his way through six tie-breaks in four matches.
After losing to Cameron Norrie in the Delray Beach final, Opelka beat fellow server big John Isner in Houston to claim his first clay-court title.
It was the first time the 24-year-old won multiple titles in one season.
#6 Cameron Norrie
Cameron Norrie has had a disastrous start to the season, losing his first four matches and winning just two of his first seven.
However, the southpaw turned things around on the hard courts of Delray Beach, where he tamed big serve Reilly Opelka to claim his first title of the year, third overall.
After losing to Rafael Nadal in the Acapulco final, Norrie triumphed on clay for the first time, beating Alex Molcan in a three-set title match in Lyon.
The Brit reached his first major semi-final at Wimbledon three weeks ago, losing to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.
#5 Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic hasn’t played many matches this year, missing the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami due to his COVID-19 vaccination stance.
Starting his campaign late in Dubai, the Serb reached his first final of the season in Belgrade but lost to Andrey Rublev. However, he regained his mojo on the clay courts of Rome, winning his sixth title at the Masters 1000 tournament.
After his Roland Garros title defense ended in the quarter-final against eventual champion Nadal, Djokovic triumphed on grass at Wimbledon for the seventh time.
The 35-year-old beat Nick Kyrgios in four sets to win his 21st Major, closing in on one of the all-time leaders Nadal.
#4 Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz is enjoying a decisive campaign, winning 29 of his 40 matches, including two titles.
He won the first Masters 1000 title of his career in Indian Wells, where he ended Nadal’s perfect 20-0 start to the year.
After a few quarter-finals on clay, the 24-year-old American beat his compatriot Maxime Cressy on the grass of Eastbourne in a tie-break in the third set. Fritz followed that up by making his first Wimbledon quarter-final, losing to Nadal in a fifth-set super tie-break after squandering a two-sets-to-one lead.
#3 Andrei Rublev
Andrey Rublev was on a roll at the start of the year. The Russian embarked on a 13-match hard-court winning streak, winning titles in Marseille and Dubai, before his run was halted by eventual champion Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells semi-final.
After two losses in his next three matches, Rublev beat home prospect Djokovic in the Serbian Open final to claim his third title of the year. It was also his third title on clay. Rublev is 31-11 this year and is coming off the Round of 16 in Hamburg.
#2 Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz has had a superb campaign. The teenager has won 42 of his 48 matches, including four titles.
Alcaraz won his first title of the year in Rio de Janeiro, which was his first triumph at an ATP 500 tournament. A few weeks later, he won his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami.
The Spaniard kicked off his European campaign on clay by winning at Barcelona. He went on to beat former champions Nadal and Djokovic in successive matches in Madrid en route to claiming his second Masters 1000 title. In the process, he became the youngest multiple Masters 1000 winner in almost two decades.
After losing in the final in Hamburg to Lorenzo Musetti last week, Alcaraz will seek a fifth title of the year in Umag against another Italian – Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard is already guaranteed to break into the top four in the standings next week.
#1 Raphael Nadal
Rafael Nadal has had a fabulous campaign despite suffering from multiple injuries. The legendary southpaw has won 35 of his 38 matches this year, including 19-0 at the Majors, winning the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Nadal started his year triumphant in Melbourne before claiming his second Australian Open title. After winning in Acapulco – his third hard-court title of the year – Nadal’s 20-0 start to the year was cut short by Taylor Fritz in the Indian Wells final.
Starting his clay season late due to a rib injury, Nadal suffered early defeats in Madrid and Rome before triumphing for a record 14th time on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Nadal has just completed a semi-final at Wimbledon. He had to withdraw from his semi-final against Nick Kyrgios after suffering a torn muscle in his five-set quarter-final win over Fritz.
