England boss Eddie Jones has warned ‘retirees’ (older members) that his current squad changes will be made by the World Cup.

“If we kept the current squad, we would be too old for the World Cup. There is a certain profile of around 28 years for a World Cup winning team, ”said the 61-year-old.

“We’ve been reducing this slowly over the past couple of years and we have to keep accelerating that because the older guys keep getting older.

“It’s about finding the right balance in the team between what we have in terms of very good players and 11 good enough to play for the Lions, so they are very good players and if they keep their desire and their form, there’s no reason these guys can’t go to the World Cup.

“All of these guys are probably 25 and over in general, so we want to bring in younger guys with the energy, risk-free (sic) and desire that will elevate the team more and more. high.”

Here we take a look at five players whose time may be up in the English jersey.

# 1. Jonathan joseph

There is no doubt that talks about Joseph’s potential move to France with The Rugby Paper reporting he could join Toulon have arisen with the center’s career in England appearing to have been scrapped for the 2021 Guinness Six Nations. Joseph has last played for England in November in the Autumn Nations Cup victory over Wales at Llanelli.

Joseph’s ax in England led to a series of unfortunate events that saw the center, along with Bath Lock, Wasps’ Elliott Stooke and Gabriel Oghre caught in the act of violating national Covid-19 lockdown rules , which banned them all.

Potential replacement: Ollie Lawrence (Worcester Warriors), Joe Marchant (Harlequins), Piers O’Conor (Bristol Bears)
