MELBOURNE, Australia – Jennifer Brady has become the latest withdrawn from next month’s Australian Open and two warm-up tennis tournaments due to injury.

Australian Open officials confirmed on Sunday that the 2021 finalist would miss the 2022 tournament with a left foot injury, and said in a tweet: “I wish you a speedy recovery Jen.”

Brady, ranked 25, played his first Grand Slam final in January at Melbourne Park, losing in straight sets to Naomi Osaka.

The 26-year-old American has not played competitively since she was forced to withdraw from her second-round game against Jelena Ostapenko in Cincinnati in August.

Brady’s withdrawal follows that of world fourth player Karolina Pliskova, who announced on Thursday that she would not be coming to Australia due to a right hand injury sustained during a training session.

Earlier this month, Canada’s Bianca Andreescu said she would take time off sports to treat her mental health, while 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams said she would not make it to the competition. event following “advice from his medical team”.

Six-time Australian Open champion Roger Federer is out of the men’s draw as he continues his lengthy recovery from knee surgery.

The Australian Open starts on January 17th.
