Hyde Water Park Set to Open in June | Local News
The new $ 1.8 million water park in Hyde Park is expected to open just in time for summer.
The water park is built on the same location as the old Hyde pool. Chuck Kempf, director of the city’s parks, said that while it won’t completely replace a swimming pool, the water park will create a fun experience for kids and a more relaxing situation for adults.
“There is a little less stress for the adults because it will be fenced in,” Kempf said. “It provides a bit more of a relaxing environment for an adult to go and let the kids play and have fun. In addition, adults can also participate.
The park will have many water games as well as an additional dry play area. Tables and umbrellas will also be included.
“We thought that if we installed a dry play area there, it would improve the characteristics of the park on the one hand, but it would also allow children who want to get in and out of the water to go to a dry play area. specific area and not having to go to the park, ”Kempf said.
The infrastructure for the water park is in place and a building is in place. Construction stopped during the winter, but once it warms up, the water and play elements will be installed, depending on the spring weather.
“We hope it doesn’t get too crazy this spring and that it doesn’t get really wet,” Kempf said. “We’re hoping we’ll be open at the start of June, which is really when the swimming season starts anyway. We wanted to be open before that, but it’s just not going to work. “
The water park would have opened earlier, but construction was delayed when the construction company found water underground.
“They had to make sure that they were looking after the water but also protecting the foundation of the building and the underground infrastructure of the water park, so it took a one-size-fits-all solution to solve this problem,” Kempf said. .
Despite the delay, the park is expected to open in time for the swimming season from early to mid-June.
