Australian Genevieve Gregson ruptured an Achilles tendon in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the Tokyo Olympics.

Gregson was injured when she fell while exiting the last water jump and was unable to complete the race.
She needed help from the national stadium medical authorities and left the track in great distress with the use of a wheelchair.
âHorrible news for three-time Olympian Gen Gregson after rupturing her Achilles tendon in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase final,â Athletics Australia tweeted.
“Our thoughts are with her and we wish her a speedy recovery.”

Gregson, who was competing on her 32nd birthday, was far from the beat when she was injured.
Wednesday night’s race was his third appearance in an Olympic final.
Gregson finished ninth in the 3,000m steeplechase final at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where she also placed 12th in the deciding 5,000m.
She made her Olympic debut at the London Games in 2012, but failed to qualify for the 3000m steeplechase heats.
