Alex Eala slipped a notch in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings this week after his performance at the recent US Open.
Eala, 16, moved from 2nd to 3rd place, with American Robin Montgomery coming in second, a career high, after her girls’ singles title in said Grand Slam.
Andorra Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva remained top of the table despite losing in the quarterfinals to Montgomery at the US Open.
Eala also reached the quarter-finals of the tournament against Switzerland’s Sebastianna Scillipoti, 7-5, 6-3, while qualifying for the women’s doubles semi-final with her Belgian partner Hanne Vandewinkel.
Eala has so far competed in five junior tournaments this year, including two Grand Slams, as she focuses more on the women’s circuit.
The Filipino tennis star boasts two Grand Slam junior doubles titles – the 2020 Australian Open with Indonesian Priska Madelyn Nugroho and the 2021 French Open with Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva.
