Delta County Law Enforcement Announces How Back the Badge Initiative Funds Will Be Used
DELTA COUNTY, Colorado (KJCT) –
The “Back the Badge Initiative” was adopted in Delta County after being questioned in the November ballot. Residents are now finding out exactly what the money will be used for.
“You know, it means to me the world to have the support we see every day with our community and the support we get with the community and the citizens of Delta County,” said Mark Taylor, Sheriff of the Delta County.
What is the initiative: “A sales tax that consists of 8 tenths of a cent for every dollar spent, which actually equates to about 80 cents for about $ 100 of goods spent in County of Delta, ”says Taylor.
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Marshal Hotchkiss’s Office, and the Delta, Cedaredge and Paonia Police Departments will use all funds.
The Sheriff’s Office will hire 4 new assistants and purchase new patrol cars. The Delta Police Department will hire 3 new officers and prepare for a larger facility, all starting in 2021.
“Thank you to our community for supporting us, you know it’s a very difficult time for law enforcement nationwide, but luckily for us we’ve only had one wave of support from from the people who live here and we’re just so grateful, ”said Jesse Cox, Commander of the Delta Police Department.
