Bracewell hat-trick seals New Zealand T20 win over Ireland
BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Dane Cleaver’s 78 didn’t come out and Michael Bracewell’s hat trick propelled New Zealand to an 88-point win over Ireland to clinch their Twenty20 series 2- 0 at Stormont on Wednesday.
New Zealand posted 179-4 and beat Ireland for 91 to secure their fifth straight victory over the hosts. The visitors beat Ireland by 31 points on Monday after a 3-0 series win at the one-day internationals in Malahide.
New Zealand can sweep the three-game T20 series on Friday.
Cleaver’s tally came out 55 balls and included five fours and four sixes in only his second T20 international appearance. Finn Allen contributed 35 of 20.
Chasing 180, Paul Stirling gave the Irish a quick start, hitting Mitchell Santner for a six and a four in the opening round. But against Lockie Ferguson he was caught to finish with 21 and leave the hosts at 23-1.
Ireland managed just four runs for their next two wickets as Jacob Duffy was dismissed by Gareth Delany for a first-ball duck before Harry Tector (2) was exhausted.
Ish Sodhi took three wickets for 21 and Ireland were at 86 for seven when Bracewell entered for the first time. Mark Adair and Barry McCarthy were taken deep with back-to-back deliveries before Craig Young cut to the back spot on the next ball as Ireland were at 91.
Young and Josh Little took two wickets each for Ireland.
