Ash Barty starts her race at Roland Garros against American Bernarda Pera in the first round at Roland Garros on Monday (Australian time).

Barty recently reached the quarterfinals of the Italian Open, before retiring in a set against Coco Gauff.

Previously, Barty had made the final in Madrid, losing in three sets to Aryna Sabalenka after victories over Paula Badosa, Petra Kvitova and Iga Swiatek.

A week earlier, Barty had beaten Sabalenka in the Stuttgart final, where she had also beaten Elina Svitolina, Karolina Pliskova and Laura Siegemund.

Barty is still ranked world number one, ahead of Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep.

WHEN DOES ASH BARTY PLAY NEXT?

Barty will face Bernarda Pera in the first round of Roland-Garros.

It will be the first time that the duo will play.

Pera is ranked 70th in the world and recently competed in a WTA 250 event in Italy, losing in the round of 16 to Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Pera qualified for the Italian Open, before beating Tamara Zidansek in the first round. The 26-year-old was beaten in straight sets by Garbine Muguruza in the round of 16.

At Madris, Pera once again passed qualifying and beat Petra Martic in the first round before coming out three times against Belinda Bencic.

ASH BARTY 2021 RESULTS

Barty has won three titles so far this year.

She started off very well, winning the Yarra Valley Classic with a 7-6 (3) 6-4 victory over Muguruza in the final.

It preceded a disappointing quarterfinal outing at the Australian Open and Adelaide Open before a return to form in Miami in March.

Barty leapt to the final with victories over Jelena Ostapenko, Victoria Azarenka, Aryna Sabalenka and Elina Svitolina.

Queenslander were leading 6-3 4-0 in the final when Beinca Andreescu retired.

Barty followed that up with a quarterfinal outing in Charleston, ahead of the clay court season in Stuttgart.

ASH BARTY RANKING

Barty is still ranked number one in the world.

The 25-year-old has a big lead over Naomi Osaka at the top of the table. Barty has 10,175 ranking points, with Osaka sitting on 7461 and Halep on 6520.
