Australia Live Covid News Update: NSW Reports 35 New Cases, Queensland Five As Annastacia Palaszczuk Says Brisbane Lockdown Will End at 6pm | Australia News
Victoria Police will fine five people $ 5,000 for breaking quarantine rules after arriving in the state.
Victoria’s head of virus testing on Saturday, Jeroen Weimar, said Australian Defense Forces officers checking compliance with home segregation caught returning travelers breaking the rules on Friday.
“These are the two things that give me sleepless nights. Our main concern is that when I have 13,000 people here in Victoria who have come from state to state with red zone permits, each of them poses a risk of coronavirus incubation, ”reports l ‘AAP, Weimar said after weeks of work to contain the latest outbreaks, its biggest fears are returning travelers violating restrictions and more leaking out of the hotel’s quarantine system.
On Friday, 50 members of the defense force visited just under 200 households to check that people were following the isolation rules.
Authorities also checked 800 people who arrived in Victoria by plane, including 600 people from the red zones.
Five were forced to turn around as soon as they arrived, while three others were immediately taken to hotel quarantine.
The state recorded its third consecutive day without a new local case.
That leaves 30 active cases, with 210 primary close contacts of recent local outbreaks in Sandringham and Oakleigh still awaiting quarantine.
Weimar said any further easing of restrictions in Victoria depends on local efforts as well as the interstate situation, with 35 new local cases registered in NSW.
This is a pretty heavy load of fuel flying north of the border and we are rightly concerned about it.
But as the situation in the NT improves, Alice Springs, Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield have been demoted to orange zones.
On Saturday morning, authorities sent messages to around 1,300 red permit holders who returned from the NT, telling them they can exit the self-quarantine earlier if they received a negative Covid test.
“When we can release you sooner, of course we will, it’s part of the whole border permit system again,” Weimar said.
