“28 pints on Saturday” – Rugby legend Jason Leonard ranks top five heavy drinkers
England legend Jason Leonard ranked the five biggest drinkers of his playing days when selecting his Drinking XV.
Leonard noted he had 28 pints of lager and when the stunned part-time nutritionist asked him exactly if he was ready to consume 28 pints each week, he met a confused look. âIt’s 28 pints on Saturday and eight to set the lead on Sunday,â Leonard replied.
The move from amateur to pro may have come as a shock to the system for many players, but the best of them have adapted. Leonard went on to set a world record of 119 test appearances [114 for England and five for the Lions] before retiring. The pints were there but not as many as before.
Here, Leonard ranks the five heaviest drinkers (besides himself) that he has encountered during his legendary career.
